FP7 ERA-NET on Nanosafety
Safe Implementation of Innovative Nanoscience and Nanotechnology

26 June 2012

Workshop on “Safe Implementation of Nanotechnologies” in Grenoble successfully accomplished

A three days workshop on the future challenges with regard to the safe implementation of nanotechnologies was organized by the French SIINN partner CEA (French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission) and the NanoSafety Cluster. CEA is a French government-funded technological research organization. As a prominent player in the European Research Area, it is involved in setting up collaborative projects with many partners around the world.

The workshop took place at the “Micro and Nanotechnologies Innovation Campus” (Minatec) in Grenoble (France) from 29 to 31 May. The coordinators of all FP7 EU projects related to the field of nanosafety gave a complete overview on the research portfolio in FP7. Key recommendations on future research needs for the implementation of nanotechnologies have been discussed and pointed out. Together with representatives of the European Commission, a way for setting up a roadmap in order to foster the transnational development of nanotechnologies in Europe has been outlined. The dialogue between the European Commission and the USA in this field has received new inputs from a dedicated session in which representatives of the corresponding US funding organizations participated.

The meetings have had a strong forward-looking character. The comments of all attendees on the quality of the meetings were very enthusiastic. At the moment, the workshop reporting is prepared and will be distributed to all attendees after finalization.

The SIINN project was represented at this workshop by the coordinator Rainer Hagenbeck (Forschungszentrum Jülich, Germany), the local organizers Bertrand Fillon and Denis Duret from CEA and Stefano Pozzi Mucelli from Veneto Nanotech in Italy.

The SIINN ERA-NET is funded under the ERA-NET scheme of the Seventh Framework Programme of the European Commission, Research Directorate- General, Grant Agreement No. 265799
